I was toldby a girl with who I attend a cookery class with told me that her friend opened a bistro in Hongdae, so I decided to check it out.
The bistro is called "75015". Sounds familiar? Anyone who has been to Paris would know that it is area code/zip code for each arrondissement in Paris, and this case, the 15th arrondsement where Le Coron Bleu is. 75015 is run by three friends who studied at Le Cordon Bleu together.
Having studied at Le Cordon Bleu, making crêpe and gallette may sound like a waste, but I am glad that they are.
Everything on the menu is zipcoded like 75001 Gallete aux etc etc and I ordered 75003 which is gallete aux jambons, oeuf et fromage, a buckwheat pancake with ham, egg and cheese. On the top, a dollop each of pesto and tomato sauce are served. It is served with homefries/cubed potatoes cooked in rosemary and olive oil, green salad with olives and sliced almonds and a slice of bread.
I was advised to mix egg yolk, pesto and tomatoe sauce to achieve a gooey sauce to dip in. It went very nicely with gallete.
I wanted to try their crêpe, caramelized banana crêpe to be exact, but the waiter said that it may be too much after a gallete. He advised me to try their fondant au chocolat.
It was not bad. I would have gone gaga over this 10 years ago, but I think I tried something better over the years. This one definitely reminds me that what I had at Jean-George Shanghai was a good one, though a bit boring. (I mean, it was as good as it can be, and like crème brûlée, I am sick of it. Yes, I should really stop eating it. )
It is a bit of a walk to find the place. FYI, this is what the bistro looks like.

Hmm, galettes and crepes! For some reason, I've never been that attracted to those 2. Last month my boyfriend and I went to a creperie/galetterie (?!), didn't know that beforehand and mistook it for an italian restaurant. But anyway, we decided to give it a try and ordered a salad and a galette each. I can't remember the names, but my bf's had egg, ham and emmental; mine had egg, ham, tomatoes, spinach and emmental..and I had a glass of cider too. It wasn't a cheap meal all in all, and my bf made a classic comment. He said, "Why am I paying 300 something bucks for a 蛋餅?!?" (If you don't know what蛋餅 is, it's a breakfast dish that's kinda similar to a galette, except for the buckwheat pancake. And you can get it for around NT$30 to 35 in most breakfast shops XD)
Wow the crepe looked soooo droolingly adoreable...I swear I must look odd sticking my face to my laptop in a very public area in the library. It's been a LONG time since I was a student and have forgotten that you must be at the library before 10am in order to save a place. hahaa~ so now the only good seat left is with the security guard.
Anyhow, there's a place called Flying Pan in HK where they just serve breakfast all day. Their egg benedict is rather 'famous', i shall go give em a try...eventually!! As I'm discovering more and more places in HK, you better start for a trip later when I've grad on this hideous course!!!
Jo//You know my Mandarin is slightly better than yours :P kakakakakakaka I know what 蛋餅 is. I like eating it, too. Given the choice between galette and 蛋餅, I would definitely go for 蛋餅, if they go easy on msg-ridden sauce. Nonethless, I really like it. I really hope someone introduces 蛋餅 in Korea. I saw someone doing it near my school once, but they were gone before I had a chance to try.
Sa//I read about Flying Pan in HK, though the pics I saw never seemed attractive enough for me. But you never know, it could be very nice! I really miss decent eggs benedict/eggs florentine.
Very inventive menu. The French food served is authentic and quite good. "75015" is a great place to eat.
